Peel & his wife Sheila Ravenscroft Dscribe some of this in Peel's book MARGRAVE OF THE MARSHES (published in 2007, got my copy from Borders). There's a lotta good material there 4 comedy, & I'm sure Richard Curtis could do it justice -- he probly heard these stations while they were broadcasting! 2 bad they only lasted a coupla yrs (around '66-'67) B4 the British gov't shut them down & then the BBC SLIGHTLY lightened-up their outlook (& playing time) 4 then-current rock&roll. The Who's Pete Townshend was a BIG pirate radio fan, it's part of the reason their 1967 SELL OUT album was put-2gether the way it was. & Van Morrison was VERY big in2 getting strange music over the radio from somewhere unknown -- this theme echoes thruout his career, especially in "Caravan" & "Wavelength."
